THE JUNIOR CHORAL

Southwell Junior Choral was formed in September 2005 in response to an event in the Southwell Festival. It provides an opportunity for children to supplement the good work done in schools by joining with children from other schools and performing in Southwell Minster with professional soloists and orchestral accompaniment.

Southwell Junior Choral is part of the Choir Schools’ Association outreach programme linked to the work of the Minster School and the Minster Choir. The programme is a strand of the National ‘Sing Up’ campaign for Primary School children funded by the government and fronted by Howard Goodall.

Membership of the choir is open to all children over the age of 7 (Year 3). It is led by Nicholas and Vicky Thorpe as part of their work with Southwell Choral Society; both have considerable experience of working successfully in Primary Education. Its accompanist is Peter Holder, Minster organ scholar. The choir meets on Monday evenings 6.30 - 7.15pm in the Minster School. There are 35 children in the present choir from school years 3 - 6.  . The Junior Choral logo was designed by Freya Hodgkin in 2007.
